Aljezur
Aljezur is a town with a striking split personality, positioned in the wild, protected terrain of the Costa Vicentina Natural Park. Unlike the busy central Algarve, this area is defined by its raw nature, rugged cliffs, and pristine, expansive beaches favored by surfers and nature - lovers.
The town itself is a study in contrasts. The old quarter, dominated by the ruins of a Moorish castle, tumbles down a hillside of whitewashed homes, reflecting a long, rural past connected to farming and fishing. Below, the new town spreads out, more modern but still keeping a low-key, relaxed character.
Aljezur's history is deeply etched in its landscape - from the castle offering spectacular views over the surrounding fields and sea, to the sweet potato fields that are a staple of the local cuisine. Life here moves at a steady, unhurried rhythm. Visitors are drawn to Aljezur for its genuine connection to the earth and the ocean, its superb fresh produce, and its quite access to some of the most untouched coastline in Portugal.
