Badolatosa
Badolatosa is a town in the easternmost corner of the Seville province, its existence intrinsically linked in the Río Genil, which wraps around its perimeter and serves as a natural boundary with Córdoba. Its name, derived from the Latin Vadus Latus (Wide ford), hints at its strategic role as a historical river crossing, used even by figures like Julius Caesar.
The essence of Badolatosa is defined by two key elements: its river and its folklore. The town is a crucial point on the Route of José María El Tempranillo, Spain's legendary romantic highwayman. This history of bandolerismo (banditry) imbues the surrounding Sierras and its remote location with an air of romantic adventure, often celebrated in local culture and gastronomy. The nearby Ermita de la Fuensanta even witnessed the bandoleros receiving a royal pardon in 1832.
Today, the town acts as a gateway to a natural preservation areas, notably the Malpasillo and Crdobilla Reservoirs, which offer protected landscape for bird watching and hiking. Badolatosa offers a glimpse into a quieter Andalucía life, marked by rich river ecology, historic narrative, and a welcoming community focused on the rhythms of the surrounding olive groves and the constant presence of the Genil.
