Benacazón
Benacazón is quiet town nestled in the Aljarafe comarca of Seville, an area known for its gentle, rolling terrain of olive groves and citrus orchards. Its name, likely rooted on the Arabic Ben-A-Casum (meaning a settlement belonging to the Casum family), firmly places its origin in the period of Al-Andalus.
This town is a subtle but important showcase of Seville's Mudéjar heritage. Its history can be traced through structures like the imposing parish church of Santa María de las Nieves and the hauntingly picturesque ruins of the Ermita de Castilleja de Talhara, whose brickwork and arched doorways are considered some of the finest examples of the Mudéjar style in the region.
Benacazón offers a truly local Andalucía experience, one far removed from the city rush. The community life revolves around deep-seated traditions-including a revered Semana Santa and an important Rocío pilgrimage-and local gastronomy. It is a place where you are invited to pause, perhaps to sample the local mosto (young wine) and traditional home-cooked tapas, all while enjoying the views toward the Guadiamar Green Corridor, a protected natural space just outside its borders.
