Costa del Sol

The Costa del Sol, literally the "Coast of the Sun", is a world-renowned coastal region that stretches for approximately 150 kilometers along the coastline of the Málaga province in Southern Spain. Its reputation is built on an extremely hig number of sunny days annually and its sustained appeal as a resort destination.

The region's composition is highly varied, ranging from the sophisticated exclusivity of towns like Marbella and the luxury marinas of Puerto Banús to the bustling, established seaside resorts such as Torremolinos and Fuengirola. The coastal strip is backed by the mountainous range of the Penibaetic System, which contribute to the protected microclimate.

While its modern purpose is largely defined by tourism, the Costa del Sol has deep historical roots, with settlements established by the Phoenicians and Romans. The area today is a major center for golf, boasting one of the highest concentrations of courses in Europe.

The region's core city, Málaga, anchors the area with its cultural weight, offering historical landmarks like the Alcazaba and Gibralfaro Castle, alongside world-class museums, including the Picasso Museum. The coast successfully merges international tourism and modern leisure facilities with pockets of traditional Andalucía culture, especially in its preserved inland "white villages" (pueblos blancos).
