Dos Hermanas
Dos Hermanas is a large and rapidly growing city located just south of Seville, serving as one of the most important residential, commercial, and industrial hubs in the metropolitan area. Its existence is defined by its scale and its crucial logistical role connecting the capital to the surrounding agricultural plains and coastal routes.
The name, "Two Sisters", is tied ti a legend about two sisters, Elvira and Estefanía Nazareno, who founded the town following the Christian Reconquest. Today, it is a city of contemporary importance, with sprawling industrial parks and large residential areas that house a significant portion of Seville's commuting population.
Despite its modern expansion, Dos Hermanas retains a link to its agricultural past, particularly the cultivation of olives and citrus fruits. The Real Feria de Mayo, one of Andalucía's largest annual fairs, showcases the city's ability to host major public events. The historic core centers around the Plaza de la Constitución and the Iglesia de Santa María Magdalena.
Dos Hermanas represents a successful model of contemporary Andalucía growth-a major, functioning city that efficiently provides services and residences while maintaining accessibility to the historic centers of the region.
