Ericeira
Ericeira is a coastal parish on the western edge of Portugal, approximately 35 kilometers northwest of Lisbon. Its identity is split-between its long history as a traditional Portuguese fishing village and its modern status as a world-renowned destination for surfing.
The area is globally celebrated as Europe's only Worlds Surfing Reserve, a testament to the exceptional quality and consistency of its Atlantic waves. The coastline here is composed of high cliffs and rocky reefs, which create specific conditions for highly sought-after surf breaks, such as the famous Ribeira d'Ilhas.
The village center maintains its antique charm with narrow, cobblestone streets and whitewashed houses trimmed in blue, clustered around the protected Praia dos Pescadores (Fishermen's Beach). This area serves as a visible link to its maritime past, where fishermen still land their daily catch, ensuring a constant supply of fresh seafood.
Ericeira successfully blends this ancient seafaring legacy with a modern, relaxed culture focused on the ocean. It offers a genuine experience of Portuguese coastal life where simple tradition coexists with an international appreciation for the raw power of the Atlantic.
