Historically a small fishing port, the location now functions as a popular nature and beach destination, known for its distinct whitewashed architecture focused around the central square. The surrounding area is defined by a spectacular coastline featuring numerous small, sheltered coves and rugged cliffs. The town serves as a crucial point on the Rota Vicentina hiking trail and acts as the access point for the nearby Ilha do Pessegueiro. Its economy riles almost entirely on the tourism sector.
