Salamanca
Salamanca is a historic Spanish city located in the Castile and León region, designated a UNESCO World Heritage site. The location is dominated by its ancient University, founded in 1218, which established the city as a primary intellectual and cultural center for centuries. The majority of the central structures are constructed from distinctive Villamayor sandstone, a material that imparts an amber hue to the architectural complexes. Architectural masterpieces include the elaborate Plateresque façade of the University, the Old and Cathedrals, and the magnificent main square, Plaza Mayor. The city sits on the bank of the Tormes River, which is crossed by a substantial ancient Roman Bridge. Today, the education and tourism sectors form the economic foundation of the municipality.
