Setúbal
Setúbal is a Portuguese city and the capital of its namesake district, located on the northern margin of the Sado River estuary. The location is defined by its strategic position, possessing a large natural harbor and facing the Tróia Peninsula across the water. Setúbal has historically been a crucial industrial and fishing center, particularly known as the heart of the sardine canning industry. Today, the city functions as a major administrative, commercial, and port center for the south Lisbon metropolitan area. Its economy relies on freight shipping, the service sector, and access to the adjacent Serra da Arrábida Mountain range, which is a nearby nature and leisure destination. The area is also the historical birthplace of the famous poet Manuel Maria de Bocage.
