Villanueva del Río y Minas

Villanueva del Río y Minas is a Spanish town and municipality located in the Vega del Guadalquivir region, in the Seville province. The town's name reflects its foundational purpose as a crucial coal mining center during the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. The location is situated on the north margin of the Guadalquivir River valley, where the River plain meets the forested hills of the Sierra Norte. While large scale coal extraction has ceased, the town preserves its strong industrial heritage.
